About 40 years ago, Sir Bob Geldof and Midge Ure formed Band Aid. This was a group of talented musicians from the 80’s who donated their time one day in London to record ‘Do they know it’s Christmas time?’  

They used their fame to raise awareness about the people of Ethiopia dying of starvation and they used their talent to reach number one in the pop charts and raise over $16M for Ethiopia, which was a lot in those days  

For the young ones not even born before ‘84, Google the song. You might recognise one singer who I think has been on The Voice:

Wind forward 40 years and sadly people are still suffering from starvation in Ethiopia.

So this Sunday, Mum, my sissies, our friend, Jane and I are joining with the Rochedale community and walking 10kms to make a difference for the people of Ethiopia.

We hope to raise awareness and much needed funds  

This year we will be funding a range of projects that will help to break the cycle of poverty for 600 women, farmers and youth in Ethiopia. 

Together we will be:
-    Establishing a new savings and loans group to support 20 people. 
-    Training 40 women in modern poultry farm management and providing starter packs of chickens. 
-    Training 300 farmers to become beekeepers and equipping them with beekeeping equipment.
-    Training 4 youth groups (80 young people) to make fuel-saving stoves and providing them with the necessary moulds.
-    Training 80 farmers in modern farming practices so they can adjust to changing and variable climates. 
-    Providing local seeds for multiplication to 40 farmers.
-    Covering the crop insurance costs for 40 farmers so they can plant with confidence.

To action all of these practical initiatives we need to raise $16,880.
